Toilet/ Shower room

Next job for me was to build the Toilet/shower room, the position of this was governed by the caravan seats bought of eBay, I seem to have forgot to take any picture during this stage which is annoying really as much work went in to it. What the picture doesn't show is I have built a frame first either side then fitted waterproof board on the toilet side and 3mm veneered board on the out side, the door side is 15mm veneered as a shower curtain will cover it.

Ceiling‎

This is the part I wasn't looking forward to but again went quite well. I glued 25mm insulation to the roof filling all the voids with roof insulation. Then I cut 12mm ply into 100mm strips, glued and screwed to cross members across the roof then along the sides front to rear.
Also as the picture reveals sometime in between I'd managed to fit the roof light as well!

Took a drive to Magnum's and bought more equipment including the ceiling boards, just went for the common white textured board and white joining strips which looks really good when fitted. Applied adhesive to the ply bearers fitted earlier then wedged the board for a couple of hours until set, again really easy to do.

All done with lights and toilet fan fitted.

Floor

Started the floor today, firstly by sticking 6mm ply down to the bare floor, then sticking battens down then insulation in between followed by 12mm ply on top creating a sandwich type floor.

The task was much harder and time consuming than first thought but all seemed to come together in the end. I used pu adhesive to stick it all down including a few blobs to secure insulation. I also made a channel in the form of a h shape to take any piping etc.

The beginning!

I decided to blog about building our motor home (bit late I know) so anyone thinking of doing the same can see whats involved. In 2009 I took the hard decision to sell my beloved Harley Davidson Fatboy and buy a 2008 Fiat Ducato xlwb to convert into a motor home for me, my wife Sandra, our son Billy and our dog Alfie. I straight away ordered and fitted an awning, also ordered a bike rack and rear door ladder both of which still haven't been fitted to date. I started the first part of the main conversion in July 2010 in order to go away in August 2010, I didn't think this would be much of a job to get it somewhere near to camp in.........I was wrong!

Took a trip up to Rainbow Conversions and bought all the main kit to start the conversion, Windows, Fridge, Roof lights, Water Heater, Heater, Wall carpet sink, hob and oven. I decided to buy the wall board from Magnum motorhomes as they do radius, angled and flat trims to match as that was the finish I wanted. Also bought second hand single passengers seat of eBay and seat swivels to fit to both. the first job was to cut the holes to fit the windows in, I wasn't looking forward to cutting big holes in the side of my shiny van! I started with the sliding door as if I messed it up it would be replaceable at worst. Cutting out turned out to be really easy by drilling the four corners and jig sawing between them (make sure you put masking tape on where your cutting as it easily scratches, and if your jig saw has a plastic attachment clipped on the bottom remove that as well, as the hot cuttings melt into it and cause scratches). Constructed a wooden frame from 19mm x 25mm pine and stuck that to the inner of the hole, waited a couple of hours for the pu adhesive to cure then stuck in the window, looks really good and I'm Happy with the result. Much easier than I thought it would be.
